As I just wrapped up my gut health certification with a perfect score, it made sense that I share a little about my personal journey on how my gut health changed and affected every sphere of my life, in recent years.
In hindsight, maybe my gut has been in dysbiosis for many years but due to lack of diagnosis my list of ailments just grew, and I accepted that as a way of life.
Cut to 3-4 years ago when I had a bout of food poisoning which painfully lasted for 6 weeks despite several rounds of medication. I didn’t do enough gut restoration which led to developing Rosacea. Moving to a new country (I moved roughly 4 years ago) changes and affects your gut bacteria as well. Add an infection and it becomes like an insult to injury.
Rosacea is an autoimmune condition caused by leaky gut.
What is a leaky gut?
Leaky gut also known as increased intestinal permeability is a digestive condition in which bacteria and toxins are able to ‘leak’ through the intestinal wall. Mainstream medical professionals do not recognize leaky gut as a real condition.
In order to heal myself from this condition I went on an elimination diet where you strategically clear your diet of trigger foods causing the issue. By the end of the cycle of my plant-based keto/paleo/elimination diet, I got a candida/yeast infection which took 5 doctors and a therapist to treat over a year and a half. The story isn’t over just yet. The discomfort and bloating persisted causing weight gain, diarrhea and depression.
That’s a lot by anyone’s standards. Thankfully I was fortunate enough to finally get a diagnosis to all of that from a bio-resonance session which pointed me in the direction of SIFO, which stands for small intestine fungal overgrowth.
Long story short, the healing journey continues because I live in a dynamic environment, and especially because health is not static. Health is dynamic too! Every moment it can change for the better or for the worse based on your choices.
Anyone reading this would say, “Wow! Those are big and complicated words and I don’t understand a thing”. Well, you are not supposed to, because you are supposed to tune-in to your body. Feel, sense, decode the messages that it’s trying to deliver through the symptoms.
Despite my profession, seeking help, I still couldn’t course correct when the timing was of utmost importance. My profession only aided me to sift through the ocean of information and eventually figure my journey of recovery.
So, what is the gut? And how can it get into dysbiosis?
The gut is the gastrointestinal system, a digestive system, digestive tract or gut is a group of organs that include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, colon and rectum.
Dysbiosis is a term for a microbial imbalance or maladaptation or inside the body, such as an impaired microbiota.
16 signs of gut dysbiosis are:

Do any of those symptoms resonate with you? Or all of them make sense? It’s time to invest in your gut and give it some TLC.
Simple steps to begin are:
- Cut down on all kinds of sugars and sweeteners
- Avoid taking antibiotics if you can. Discuss this with your doctors in detail and ask for alternatives
- Do gentle healing exercises. Go for long walks, try Yoga or Pilates. Stay active
- Work on your sleep
- Include probiotics and fermented foods in your diet if you can tolerate them
- Take active steps towards reducing stress
Bio individuality is always the key. Not everybody adheres to the same solution tactics. Hence, tuning in to your own body, and finding out what works and what doesn’t is very important.
